International Festival of Documentary Films “Meetings in Siberia”

October 2 – October 8, 2017, Novosibirsk.

Siberia is a cross-road of cultures and discourses. It is a place of exchange of ideas. It is a landing strip of perspective projects.

International Festival of Documentary Films “Meetings in Siberia” is implemented in Novosibirsk. As usual it hosted filmmakers from different countries. They presented to the broad Siberian audience contemporary documentaries as well as it was a meeting point of professionals, sharing information, discussions and making new contacts. Selection is being carried out by the Organizing Committee due to tradition to present creative documentaries and the international panorama of best films. There is no competition for films, but the festival has prizes of honour (no money) for the best shorts (takes) and best camera works.

The festival has become a prominent event in the cultural life of the Siberian region, accumulated substantial experience in the field of professional communications.

The main goal of the festival is by means of documentary cinema to inform the Siberian community about the processes taking place in all countries and to acquaint the guests with the Siberian realities as well as to create conditions for professional intercourse and collaboration of documentary filmmakers.

The festival is aimed at helping the professionals to get information; the distinctive feature of the festival is intercourse, opportunity to create new projects on national and international levels. Seminars, workshops and trainings are the mandatory part of “Meetings in Siberia”.

The festival’s venue is cinematheatre “Pobeda” having up-to-date Dolby Digital Surround screening halls, bars and leasure space giving possibility for different kinds of festival activities.

IFF “ Meetings in Siberia” is a vivid cultural event in the Siberian region. It is visited by vast audience; among them are representatives of high schools, social organizations, art managers, mass cultural shows organizers, students, senior pupils, creative schools graduates, journalists, theater audience, creative people, TV specialists, etc.

Every year festival “Meetings In Siberia” has in numbers broadcastings, a lot of publications. The festival influences upon the public audience and provides publicity for the participants. A number of directors were in Novosibirsk and had fruitful contacts and opportunity to be known among the other festivals.

The festival had many celebrated directors and celebrated filmmakers as a participants such as Alan Heim, Oskar prize winner (USA); Victor Kossakovski ( Venice prize winner) , Heino Deckert – one of the successful European documentary and feature producer (Germany) ; one of the most creative director Jos Stelling ( Netherlands) ; Aleksey Fedorchenko – Venice prize-winner(Russia ); Steve Worker (England) with his famous “Young at heart” , directors – Nati Barats ( Israel), Boris Mitich (Serbia), Jeanne Bertould (Switzerland), others.

Novosibirsk is really place where cinema is estimated as art , it is native town of famous film director Andrey Zvjagintsev (Venice prize winner).

The 20-th edition of the International film festival “Meetings In Siberia” is to be held in Novosibirsk October 2 – October 8, 2017.
